An example of one of my candid wedding photographer reviews from a Destination Wedding in Ikaria, Greece…
‘Dave shot the photos for our wedding in Greece. He was helpful and amenable the whole time. We were very pleased with how the photos came out, he fully understood our brief that we wanted natural candid shots of the guests enjoying themselves, capturing the overall environment whether that was the food, the island lighting, or the sea view, plus all the details. Dave’s communication was great, and he returned the curated and edited photos quickly. We would recommend his services!’- Yoel N.

What influenced my passion for candid wedding photography?
Early Influences…
When I first discovered the world of documentary wedding photography, my love for candid wedding photos began. I was fascinated by the idea that real-life events could be captured, and the stories behind them preserved. This fascination led to me exploring candid photography in the context of weddings.
I attended an insight training course run by one of my favourite photographers Annabel Williams in Staveley in the Lake District. Initially it was called Contemporary Photographic Training that later became Aspire photographic training. From the start, I thought this was a great way to capture love stories at their most authentic. While the course was more theory than practice, it gave me an opportunity to explore photography and art. It also allowed me to develop a philosophy which underpins my photography. it was very much Annabel Williams’ work that opened my eyes to taking spontaneous photographs with style and sophistication.
My style – Developing it.
When I started photographing weddings in this more modern contemporary style, I found that at first I struggled to get away from the idea that everything should look beautiful in a stereotypical way of traditional wedding photography. I was not satisfied with the work and had to find my own way of working. I became increasingly attracted to the spontaneous moments that happened throughout the day. These candid photos had a powerful emotional resonance and power that posed photographs simply could not replicate. I developed my own unique style of candid wedding photography over time. I focused on capturing real emotions, stories, and connections.
Candid wedding photography: My approach
The most important attribute for me is trust building with the couple.
My candid wedding photographer approach to capturing weddings is based on building trust with my wedding couples. I spend time getting to know the couple, understanding their personalities and building a rapport with them that makes them feel relaxed and comfortable in my presence. I can capture their emotions and connection without posing.
Moments to observe and anticipate.
As a candid wedding photographer, I find that you need to be able to capture the most meaningful and authentic moments, I approach every wedding with an eye for anticipation and observation. I always pay attention to the timetable, the guests and the emotions that are at play. This ensures I am in the best place at the perfect moment. By being present and engaging, I can capture the laughs, tears and heartfelt conversations that make every wedding unique.
I’m accepting of imperfections.
As a candid wedding photographer, I think that the beauty lies in imperfections. Instead of aiming for perfect posed photos, I embrace quirks and surprises that make every wedding unique. I use this approach to create images that are beautiful, but also true to the story of each couple.
The conclusion of the article is:
As a candid wedding photographer, my journey has been filled with passion, growth and discovery. I capture the true emotions of couples by capturing their connections and stories. Each celebration continues to inspire me by the power and joy of candid photography.
